This course is ideally suited for people new to the coffee industry or those looking to gain an insight into the broad subject matter of green coffee. It includes an introduction to the basics of quality checks, coffee grading, and taste/flavor differences due to processing or species.

Specifically, by doing hands on exercises, tasting and cupping, you will develop a greater understanding of the following concepts:

  • The different species and varieties of coffee
  • The origin and spread of coffee
  • Factors affecting growth
  • Size of the coffee market
  • Different processing methods
  • Harvesting methods
  • Milling and exporting
  • Trace-ability
  • Sensory evaluation and cupping

Practical and Written Exams take place in the late afternoon. There is a separate SCA registration, not included with this course, to take the Practical and Written Exams and upon passing, the Certificate Issuance. To register for this course's exams follow the Exam and Certificate Issuance Link.

Courses at The Academy of Coffee Excellence generally run from 8:30am - 5:00pm. Coffee, fruit & baked goods available at 8:00am. Lunch is provided.
