    Course Summary

The Academy of Coffee Excellence in conjunction with the Nepal Coffee Federation (NCF) Academy of Coffee Excellence Nepalhave created the Academy of Coffee Excellence Nepal. Together we will be developing training, education and applied skills opportunities focused on improving the domestic coffee sector. Together our mission is to increase the quality and quantity of coffee from Nepal.

Here is how you can be part of transforming a nation’s coffee sector.

    Micro Lot Cupping Judging

I participated in the 1st Nepal Micro Lot Cupping in 2019. The 2nd will be held in June of 2020. Coffee professionals participating in this event will serve as official judges and / or the voice of the Specialty Coffee Industry.

Coffee growers from Nepal participating in the 2nd Annual Micro Lot Cupping will submit their coffees to the Nepal Coffee Federation for the Preliminary Round of screening, sorting and ranking. There should be approximately 15 to 20 coffees that will advance from the Preliminary Round to the Judging Round.

Our task will be to green grade and cup coffee samples consistent with the Coffee Quality Institute’s protocols. The criteria for submitting Judge Applications are to be a Q Grader or self-designated coffee cupping professional that knows and uses the CQI protocols for cupping and green grading.

If you have a travelling partner or if you do not wish to participate as either a Judge or the Voice of the Industry, there will be other options available to you outlined in the detail section below.

    Himalaya Coffee Training Collaborative

The Himalaya Coffee Training Collaborative is a program that delivers CQI, SCA and Academy of Coffee Excellence developed coursework. It also enables foreign nationals to use and cross train their skills with their Nepali Coffee Professional counterparts in the workplace and outside of a lab. You may have skills that they need. They may have skills that you do not. Working together you will share cross cultural industry best practices. Collaborative learning capitalizes on one another's skills and is based on the model that knowledge can be created within a group where peers engage and interact by sharing experiences and approaches to a common work task. There are collaborative training opportunities on the farm, at the mill, in the roastery and in the cafe.

There will be both Professional Level and Foundational Level coursework available to both foreign and domestic coffee professionals. Coursework will be taught in English and translation into Nepalese will be available.
